John Lewis at home

Tamworth

The premises occupied by John Lewis at home at Tamworth were originally intended to accommodate B&Q.  Outline planning permission had been granted on appeal with a range of conditions geared to control the occupation of the unit trading as a DIY store.  We were instructed by John Lewis to advise on the extant planning permission and then to keep a watching brief over the application for the approval of reserved matters for the detailed design of the building.

After the store had opened in 2011 John Lewis wished to extend the store by the installation of a mezzanine floor in the building.  We acted as lead consultant and secured planning permission in 2013.  The planning application was supported by successful public consultation which generated substantial support for the proposal.  The main planning issue was the likely impact of development on a town centre redevelopment scheme.  We successfully negotiated the concerns raised by the Council.

Our involvement also required making representations to the emerging Tamworth Local Plan Core Strategy.
