Lee Mills at Scholes near Holmfirth was a disused multi‑storey mill building.  The issues arising from proposals to convert the site to apartments were the loss of an employment site, access and car parking and the suitability of the site for housing having regard to disturbance caused by neighbouring heavy industry.  We were able to demonstrate that the use of the building for homes would not undermine the supply of employment land.  The architects, Hall Needham Associates of Oldham (now HNA), produced a design that protected the amenity of future occupiers from the adjoining industrial uses.
